Perry County offers a peaceful retreat for outdoor enthusiasts or families building memories – safe, scenic, and uncrowded. From the 1,483 acres of Fowlers Hollow State Park to the vast 96,000-acre Tuscarora State Forest, public lands roll out miles of trails. Horseback riders are permitted on the extensive Alfarata and Beaston trails in the Tuscarora State Forest.  Fowlers Hollow State Park is the perfect base camp for a ride with trailer parking and camping facilities.

The Appalachian Trail slices south through forested ridges, rewarding hikers with overlooks like Hawk Rock where the valley opens like a postcard. Cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, or birdwatching – each season has its pull.

The Susquehanna forms Perry County’s eastern edge – wide and shallow. The Susquehanna and Juniata hold strong natural populations of channel catfish and smallmouth bass. The Juniata threads straight through the heart of Perry County – slow and clear, ideal for tubing or kayaking with kids, or drifting a jon boat on a family outing – no dams, no wakes, just steady current and gravel beaches where you pull out for lunch.
